MS Outlook PST files of large size can lead to serious problems. For example, MS Outlook 2002 & the older variants only permit the maximum size of PST files is 2 Gigabytes where MS Outlook 2003 and 2007 provides storage space for PST files is 20 Gigabytes only. But in comparison to Outlook 2010, 2013, 2016, and in 2019 the storage which is provided for the PST file is 50 Gigabyte. If the size of the PST file increase above the limit that each MS Outlook version permits than that PST file become corrupt. The Steps are given below:-
  • Open MS Outlook. Then, choose the PST file
  • Click on File followed by info and then hit on the Cleanup
  • A list will pop up from which choose Archive
  • The Archive dialog box, check ‘Archive this folder & all subfolders’ box is by default. If it’s not checked, check the box. Then choose any folder from the list which has to be moved. For instance, choose the Inbox folder.
  • In the Archive dialog box, the option of ‘Archive items older than’ is there. Here choose a date from the calendar
  • With the option of Browse, choose a location and name the newly created PST file. IF not given, by default, it is saved as pst.  
  • The selected location with the default name is there in the edit box. Hit on the OK to start splitting of PST files 

Method2: Split PST Files by Using Import/Export Option   

  • Open and configured MS Outlook
  • Then create a new MS Outlook PST file. Hit File>>More items>>Outlook Data File and then hit on the File
  • The window of Create or Open Data file appears. Choose a location and give a name to the newly created Outlook data file. Hit on OK, a new Outlook file is created and listed
  • Hit File>>Open
  • In Import and Export wizard select Export a file from the list and tap on Next
  • In Export to a File dialog box, choose Outlook Data File(.pst) and tab on Next
  • From the Export Outlook Data File dialog box, choose the folder from which file has to exported. Open the folder, choose the item and hit on the Next
  • Click on the Browse tab to select the file to export
  • The Open Outlook Data File window opens. Choose the file to export and for confirmation click OK
  • The selected Outlook file can be seen in the edit box. Click on Finish to start to break PST files.
